Leadership in Charities
Kindness is not quick
by mr alex
"There are many ways to show you are kind
You may be gentle, helpful or just inclined
Some people send money with just one click
It’s incredible how you can feel good - too quick
For me, kindness must be more than just fast
To make me feel good? Well, that won’t last!
Before you reach for your smartphone with an open heart
Think of getting off your butt and instead - take part
Visit those who seldom see good friends
Who live their life through a very different lens
Find someone in need, perhaps local and alone
Not through google, rather someone you have known
Next time you are feeling generous and sincere
Think about giving someone - some of your good cheer."

Whose the money for?
by mr alex
"B4-U-DO send your money
Ask yourself, now listen here, sonny
Will my cash go all the way to where it belongs
Or will it also find those looking for a gong?
Wondered how much of your money you will find
It’s way to the target that was really on your mind
We read about CEO’s enriching themselves
But as bosses of a charity? That’ll not end well
Join me in condemning those who pretend to be Leaders,
Such avarice in this field, instead they are running a meter
You see, a Leader is exceptional and needs no appointment
Because Leaders emerge - but not from employment
A charity exists not for those that can quit
It is there for the good of those that need it."

'Whose the money for?'
80 / 20
by mr alex
"How much money does your charity get
Is it 50 / 50? Then half is lost in their silhouette.
I've read that it's worse in some cases; that's true
With only a pittance you gave, filtering through
Meantime at the top, the boss has a big salary
They would be better off in a rogue's gallery
So vote with me to make a cardinal rule
That to be a charity means 80 is cool
If 20 is not enough, then shame on them; I say
You can't be a charity - if you only give half away."

Don’t let the past dictate your future
by mr alex
“The past is a place where we have been
A distant place, a different scene
The ways of old didn’t always work
Like letting others - do your legwork
Maybe we learned a better understanding.
To avoid that sometimes, oh so hard landing
Or ignoring our customer's emerging needs
Learning the world now moves at faster speeds
We got excited when computers entered our lives
Now, one phone alone can hold the world’s archives
Spending money on what we thought might happen
But finding out that it was just your passion
We all must learn from the deeds of our past
We got things wrong - but we bounced back fast
The best thing about looking backwards
Is learning from failures so you can move forward
Whatever you do - you should always believe
The best place to be is where you achieve
So, don’t let the past dictate your future
Just learn, strive forward and enjoy your venture.”

Is Africa for you?
by mr alex
Most people have never been
to where animals wander and can still be seen
Where the lion roars if you wander into their glen
Sending wild dogs rushing back right into their den
You can have breakfast by the ocean and visit a Lagoon
Drive up the mountains, see a desert and still be home at noon
Huge Mountains look like tables, covered in froth
Full of fleecy white clouds that look like Mum’s tablecloth
They have gold and resources buried just under the ground
Rich pickings for others can often be found
Have you walked with an elephant, but not in a zoo?
Or stood next to a waterfall with no McDonalds in view
Where hand-crafts blossom and farm stalls thrive
Have a scone, cream and jam. It’s just a short drive.
A place where the sunset is welcomed with a G&T
They also know how to make a proper cup of tea
I found a corner of God’s earth where the poor make you laugh
I guess it’s because their neighbours might be giraffes
You might meet danger because their snakes can kill
In this same wee heaven where the sunset is still
Will you dare to go where it’s as safe as can be
Even though you may have to be on top of a tree
A place of broad contrasts of sunshine and dark
That will make you feel happy and bring out that spark.
See for yourself, visit it's true
Beware, like me, Africa might be for you.
