LEADERSHIP TODAY
HELPING YOU WIN!
The Leader's Job
Not everyone is meant to be a leader. While ambition is important, it’s not the only requirement. Self-confidence matters, but too much can cause problems. Determination is valuable, but true success is what really counts. Leaders are often given the toughest tasks, especially when current management has struggled or when stakeholders—like investors and customers—are unhappy. They realize that a leader is needed to turn things around. If a business is struggling or not financially viable, leaders are brought in to make changes, as stakeholders feel they need to act to save the organization.
Leadership is primarily about accomplishing goals. If you have a successful track record of improving organizations, you will be in demand. Many companies, even those that have done well in the past, eventually need to change direction. For example, IBM had to shift from being a manufacturer to a service provider, which required strong leadership. On the other hand, Kodak failed to adapt to changing markets and went bankrupt.
Transforming an organization isn’t just about making it better; it often involves big changes. When turning around a struggling organization, tough decisions are necessary. Leaders often have to make choices that can negatively affect dedicated employees. However, being a leader means you must be willing to do what’s right, even if it’s unpopular and open to criticism.
Not everyone is cut out for leadership; it’s a role for a select few. Creating a stable and efficient environment requires determination, foresight, and humility. Leaders often work long hours, sacrificing personal time and money, and must be ready to take responsibility when things don’t go well. Be prepared to spend extended time away from friends and family. While it’s possible to lead from a distance, true leaders engage with their teams and help others learn and grow.
Leaders understand the challenges they face and know what it takes to succeed. The primary goal of any business is survival. Leadership involves recognizing both the benefits and sacrifices needed for success. Leaders may not be financial experts, but they must know how to manage budgets, ensure cash flow, and improve the organization’s financial health for long-term success.
If you believe you can be a leader, get ready to face daily challenges. Focus on understanding your market, spend time connecting with your employees, and base your strategy on your insights rather than just rumors. Effective leaders communicate their vision clearly so that it’s easily understood. Only those who truly believe in your vision will see you as genuine and willingly follow your lead.
Once you become a leader, you remain one.

"Queuing & Waiting, the most important
challenge of the 21st Century
"I finished reading your book last night. I enjoyed it. It was a great read and very informative. I liked the easiness of reading and the feeling of wanting to read a little bit more, even when tired. You certainly had your highs and lows in your career. I'll pass it on to my Sons; I am sure it will help them on their life's journey. "Fantastic book, and I would thoroughly recommend 'it does matter'.
